Texan of the Year Not Even a Texan

The Dallas Morning News, in its infinite wisdom, has managed to pull a stunt that not even Time Magazine would have considered: Texan of the Year is the Illegal Immigrant. Yes, that's right... Illegal Immigrant? Now, of course the DMN controls whom they pick, but did they not even look at the name of the award? TEXAN OF THE YEAR? Of course, an illegal alien (sorry I am not going to degrade all the immigrants that came to America that came to our country through legal means) is not a Texan. For that matter, they are not even an American either.

The lead starts out, "He is at the heart of a great culture war in Texas – and the nation, credited with bringing us prosperity and blamed for abusing our resources." Hmmm, no women cross our border, right? And who might I ask is the one crediting them with bringing us prosperity? Hmmm, Sam Walton wasn't an illegal alien. Jack Walsh wasn't an illegal alien. Henry Ford? Bill Gates? I dare say that not one person polled in America would list one name of an illegal alien that has brought us prosperity.

According to the Dallas Morning News, "To their champions, illegal immigrants are decent, hardworking people who, like generations of European immigrants before them." Millions of Europeans came to this country honestly and to give illegal aliens any kind of linkage is shameful.

The DMN goes on to add " especially here in Texas, his strong back and willing heart help form the cornerstone of our daily lives." Hmmm, so they're just good guys who want a better life and simply aren't patient?  No drug dealers wanting to spread the Cheese Epidemic we currently see in our high schools? Not a chance, they simply have a "willing heart" and are the "cornerstone of our daily lives."

Of course, taxpayers are footing the bill. It took 26 paragraphs before the Morning News reported that 70% of the women who gave birth at Parkland Hospital are illegal immigrants costing taxpayers over $70.7 million to deliver the babes of these illegals. Maybe they are the cornerstone of our daily lives, taking our tax money.

Another jab at the law abiding citizens of the United States was thrown at us by the DMN, "Yet to those who want them sent home, illegal immigrants are essentially lawbreakers who violate the nation's borders." Essentially? How many news articles do we see in the Dallas Morning News that add the "essentially" qualifier when reporting on someone charged with murder? Will we see that "essentially" added to articles this week when reporting about someone being killed by a drunk driver - saying he was "essentially" charged with DUI and vehicular manslaughter?  My guess is you won't.

There were many choices the DMN could have chosen for Texan of the Year, heck they could have even pick a Texan. Instead, they made a decision instead to go with someone who breaks our laws, utilizes our resources, and calls us racists when all we want is to have our laws followed.

Perhaps this is why they, and many other liberal newspapers across the country, are seeing their circulation drop like a rock.

Does Fred Really Want to be President?

From the Politico, this just demonstrates why FredHeads have left in disgust and why many question Fred Thompson's "Fire in the Belly" for wanting to be President. I have met Fred personally and in January I was wanting him to get into the race. I just wish he could some how show some desire, because there is a lot to like from Fred!

Depends on your defenition of SAW!

Mitt Romney's claims of "I saw my dad march with Martin Luther King" proved to be a bogus claim. According to Boston Newspaper "The Phoenix," George Romney never marched with Martin Luther King despite the claim of Mitt Romney. "the Phoenix can find no evidence that the senior Romney actually marched with King, nor anything in the public record suggesting that he ever claimed to do so. Asked about the specifics of George Romney’s march with MLK, Mitt Romney’s campaign told the Phoenix that it took place in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. That jibes with the description proffered by David S. Broder in a Washington Post column written days after Mitt’s College Station speech." Problem is "that account is incorrect. King never marched in Grosse Pointe, according to the Grosse Pointe Historical Society, and had not appeared in the town at all at the time the Broder book was published." So now it's obvious that David Broder falsified something for a book too!

The Phoenix adds a quote from Suzy Berschback, curator of the Grosse Pointe Historical Society
“I’m quite certain of that,” casting doubt that George Romney ever made it to GP by adding “We’re a small town. Governors don’t come here very often, except for fundraisers.”

This sounds incredibly like Bill Clinton's 'It depends on what your definition of 'is' is?" Or perhaps a fellow Massachusetts Flip Flopper's 'I voted before it before I voted against it.' Question: WHERE IS HUGH HEWITT?

Sadly enough, he is no where to be found? Could this be the ROMNI-BOMB? ROMNI-CIDE? I make you this guarantee, if Mike Huckabee had been caught such a blatant falsification of the record and came out and tried to redefine the word "saw".... HIS GOOSE WOULD BE COOKED!

Romeny on MTP

"My father walked out of the 1964 Convention because he heard Goldwater's speech and thought he wasn't going to be good enough on civil rights." So he is not a Goldwater Republican?

NOTE: THE BOSTON GLOBE ENDORSED McCAIN OVER ROMNEY (CLICK HERE)

Update: BOOM, HAMMER TIME! Proof that Romney has flip flopped on abortion, having campaigned on abortion rights both for Senate and Governor.

How can you say I've always been pro-life and then later say my position was pro-choice and I changed my position?  FLIP FLOP!

Update: Like a fish on a hook, he's squirming.

Update: Another flip flop on stem cell research. Tim is finding them all. "I have two positions on this, let me tell you" I was for it before I was against it...sound familiar! Now she talks about Hillary voting for something after she was against it... "she was putting politics ahead of..." hmmm, sounds like his track record.

Update: Another flip flop on gun control. "Some people, many my opponents and some who want to write interesting articles, want to find everything I've ever been for." Hmmm, yes, as they should.

Update: "They [illegals] shouldn't have to go home? Eventually"  Eventually? hmmm, no hard fast date? Could eventually mean years?

They've gone to a commercial break. I'll end it here, the point is Romney has warts too. Giuliani has warts, McCain has warts, Thompson has warts and Huckabee has warts. Hillary - Barack - and Slick Johnny has MAJOR warts! Anyone who claims that there are NO warts on Romney just lives in a fantasy world or is a spin doctor.

Update: Phillip Klein of the American Spectator doesn't give the Romney appearance on MTP very high marks., "those who watched who haven't been following the election that closely thus far got a crash course in the staggering number of issues Romney has altered or reversed his prior positions on."

Update: Check out this video, Romney fans cannot be happy.

Re-Check that Giuliani Strategy

Rasmussen has just released a new Florida Poll, and guess whose on top... NOT Giuliani, it's Mike Huckabee.

For weeks upon weeks, the thought by many pundits is that the Hucakbee/Romney battle benefited one person: Giuliani. Romney's strategy, which by the way is the same as Huckabee, was to put the bulk of resources into the early states and use the bounce to propel him to the nomination. Giuliani, however, had a national strategy that was built on Super Tuesday. Seems, Huckabee has the best of both worlds, just look at the polls:

Iowa - First Place
New Hampshire - give that to Romney
South Carolina - First Place
Michigan - First Place
Nevada - Second Place
Florida - First Place

RASMUSSEN NATIONAL TRACKING POLL: FIRST PLACE!

What happens to the Inside-the-Beltway elites (and one way out in California) when the Huckster takes four out of the first six contests? What if Iowa gives Huckabee a boost to New Hampshire and he takes the Granite State?

As Terrel Owens says, get the popcorn out and watch the parade of elites eat crow. Need some Tabasco Sauce?

Seems Mitt Can't Forget

Bigotry goes both ways, and so does baiting the press to keep it alive. In what can easily be described as the most antagonistic week of campaigning for the '08 Republican nomination, faith and religion have begun to take center stage and only one candidate seems to want it to exit stage left. Or at least he has apologized for his words.

Mike Huckabee’s infamous question about whether or not Mormon’s believe Jesus and Satan where brothers drew the ire of Romney supporters and the candidate himself. So much so, Huckabee sought Mitt on the stage after the last debate and immediately apologized…ignoring the fact that Mormon Theologians have said that same thing in the past as well. So, end of story, right?

Not if you are Mitt Romney. In an interview in today's Dallas Morning News, Mitt Romney said "Governor Huckabee will be a serious competitor in a heavily evangelical state like Iowa, but I don't think long term he emerges as the major challenge."

"Heavily evangelical state?" Where is the apology for saying, basically, the only reason the people of Iowa support Huckabee is because they share the same faith. Question: Who is now trying to bait a reporter into continuing to keep religion a part of the debate? Who is now over simplifying the race for President of the United States? Imagine if Mike Huckabee said, "Governor Romney will be a serious competitor in a heavily Mormon state like Utah, but I don't think long term he emerges as a major challenger."  How long would it take to have the Bigot Label plastered on every blog in America?

Understand Romney did not make this statement before Huckabee's comment, but instead after his apology. Asked on the Today Show
if he believed Huckabee was speaking in a coded language to evangelicals, Romney said, “I don’t believe that the people of this country are going to choose a person based on their faith and what church they go to.” Apparently not when he makes a statement that says the only reason Huckabee is getting any support from voters is because they're choosing a man of the same faith.

Others can say that Hucakbee knew what he was doing when he spoke to the New York Times, hoping to bait the reporter. What's the difference between that and continuing to say that the only reason Huckabee is doing so well is because evangelicals don't know any better? There is no difference, which is Mitt Romney's surrogates should ask for him to apologize. They should demand it be done in the same expeditious manner for which Huckabee apologized. Nothing short of an apology is bigotry.

But it also shows a total lack of understanding for what is going on nationally by a man who wants to be the Republican Presidential Nominee. Right now, Huckabee is leading all candidates according to the Rasmussen Daily Tracking Poll. State by state, with the exception of New Hampshire, he is either first or second in the polls for states voting before Super Tuesday.  That's just a fact, Mitt.

Bill Kristol said it best, "But I think there's an awful -- kind of a patronizing tone about the Christian evangelicals and about Mike Huckabee. Mike Huckabee is second in the national polls.  He's not just popular in Iowa where there happen to be, according to people inside the Beltway, a lot of wacky Christian evangelicals. Huckabee is rising everywhere. He has been a very good candidate. He's not particularly my favorite. But you've got to give credit where credit is due. He is running a heck of a campaign, and it's not just in Iowa. He's second in every national poll since Thanksgiving. Romney's problem is that he hasn't been able to rise in the national polls, though spending about, what, 20 times more money than Mike Huckabee." Remember, Kristol said Huckabee isn't particularly his favorite. What's the old phrase, don't shoot the messenger. In this case, don't shoot the better campaigner. It's not his fault you haven't got the bank for your bucks.

That's the real issue here, isn't it?  Romney has far outspent Huckabee and hasn't been able to see his national poll numbers rise. For a supposed very successful successful businessman, he simply isn't getting much return on his investment. When you add in all the free publicity he gets from one well known west coast Talk Show Host, it makes it even worse.

So bottom line, when Romney continues to say "evangelical" he should be called to the carpet with the same accountability that Huckabee has forced to surrender to these last two weeks.

Huck on Immigration

Ok, so he has come around on Immigration...good for Huck. (Side note, why doesn't Romney get slammed for his flip flops on the social issues at the rate Huckabee has been clobbered this week on coming to our side on Immigration?!?!?) But the transformation came before he became the front runner:

During an Interview with Scott Wilder (The Word, 100.7 FM Christian Talk Radio) on his June 15th show, Huckabee answered a question about the then Immigration Bill in the U.S. Senate and said:

"Tell me a person crossing an international border shouldn't have to provide some
kind of documentation to say 'Here's who I am. Here's where I am going. Here's
why I am going there and here's what I am going to be doing. That's  the first thing
American's want. The second thing. This current bill [Senate Immigration Bill]
gives people status and then says now you can take some steps to earn what we
already have given. It needs to be the other way around, here are the steps you
must take and if you take these steps and faihfully discharge them, then we will
discuss your capacity to earn status, that is the difference between Amnesty and
their ability to earn their way back."

This is not a johnny come lately of the last month, clearly it was a belief at the beginning of his campaign. Was it how he governed in Arkansas, no. Did he duck Laura Ingraham's question today on matricula consular cards, yes. Should he have been roasted by Laura and Michelle, yes. What Michelle said is so true, we cannot have that as our policy. As Michelle said, he was asked a direct question - and he needs to give a direct answer. He has done that before, with the SCHIP question on (UGH, yes) Hugh's show. This is why he needs a better staff around him, he is no longer a second tier candidate and cannot run a second tier campaign.

However, I do not agree with Michelle's quote "a conversion of pure expedience." Go back to his July interview with Scott Wilder, note his response to a question about the need to have voters support him now rather than later:

"What he [the candidate] believes is what's going to govern the way he decides and
if you preceive that a candidate really doesn't believe like then what's the point of
supporting him? Or if you perceive that a candidate is saying what you believe but
you don't think he believes it deep down and he has changed it already that means
he would very likely change it again he's a politician of convenience and not conviction,
      then what's the point?"

adding....

"Political Games for just the sake of just Political Winners and Losers is just a waste
of my time and the waste of the money of the people out there."

We're told that Mitt Romney can be trusted on his switch from pro-choice to pro-life ("I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time that my mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a US Senate Candidate.) but we cannot trust Huckabee when he changes from a soft to hard stance on Illegal Immigrations.

I'll say the same thing that I yell at the screen during a Cowboys game about the referees, "call it both ways." We already know what uniform one west coast pundit is wearing.

So much for the truth...

SO much for being right. "Huckabee ought to have apologized during the Des Moines Register debate, but he didn't," says Hugh. Adding "So he went to CNN immediately thereafter and asked for forgiveness." Memo to Hugh, it helps to be factually correct. Huckabee went to Romney and apologized BEFORE he went to CNN. That was the story. Making such a false statement just continues to demonstrate a complete bias that more and more conservatives are rejecting.

For the Record, I am no longer as supportive of Governor Huckabee as I once was. However, no Republican candidate should be put in the cross-hairs every day by a fellow Republican. No one. Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment is obviously one that Hugh does not subscribe to.

SO much for being right part two: "When your campaign is in trouble, it is better to focus on the trouble and fix, not set it ablaze." The Daily Rasmussen Tracking Poll has Huckabee rebounding to a 4 point national lead.  As Patrick Ruffini said, "Huckabee has moved from niche regional contender to (for now) bona-fide national frontrunner. This is no longer just an Iowa deal.  Sooner or later, both Mitt and Rudy will have to deal with Huckabee." Perhaps this explains Hugh's continued carpet bombing of Huckabee, so Romney doesn't have to be the one with his hands dirty at the end of the day...let Hugh do the dirty work and Romney can be the clean one?

PS the Dems said they wanted a dumb governor who had no foreign policy experience who raised taxes while running his state. Reagan won by a landslide in 1980. Be careful what you wish for Hugh!

Again, I see the flaws in policy and have become less of a supporter of Huckabee. However, I realize he has a legitimate chance of winning the nomination and all we are doing us cutting off his legs for the General Election. There are plenty of warts on all of our candidates, however, let the Democrats do the work in June...instead of having a self-wounded candidate for the fall. Questioning each candidate and letting their record speak for themselves and pointing that out is one thing, a drumbeat louder than a metal band is another.

"I Won't Be Raising MY Hand," by Fred Thompson

Had to be the moment of moments in Presidential Debates and sure makes me wish Fred Thompson would be like this more often:

He's never been one to adhere to debates, telling Mike Gallagher back on July 25th "Well I won't be raising my hand, I assure you" He' was right!

Could This Be McCain's Out?

John McCain may have just given a subtle indication of what he can use as an exit strategy should he decide to exit the race...or perhaps a way to get a boost by putting principle over politics...either way, it's very interesting:

“I’m going to have to maybe go back to Washington and leave the campaign trail
depending on what happens here,” McCain said. “Because I’m not going to let
[The Democrats and MoveOn.org] get away with it. I’m not going to let them set
a date for surrender. I’m not going to let them lose this war.”

We'll have to see how this plays out.

Hannity "Six"

Sean Hannity on Tuesday Night's "Hannity & Colmes" outlines his six keys strategy for the General Election for Republican Nominee next fall:

1. Cutting Taxes
2. Staying on the Offensive on the War on Terror
3. Winning in Iraq
4. Energy Independce
5. Free Market Solutions to Health Care
6. Pointing out the Distinct Differences they have

The question is, how does your candidate stack up on these six? Great start, more to come later...

Karl Rove: ''Bill a Big Negative" for Hillary

Speaking on Hannity & Colmes, Karl Rove outlined what will become a key factor for Republicans AND Democrats when it comes to Hillary Clinton...Bill:

"I think [Bill] is a big negative. Every Presidential Election is an election about
change, it's about about the future. How can you claim to be oriented to the
future if your principle message is 'lets go back to the way it was when Bill and
I were in the White House together.' That's not change, that's regression not
     progression."

Many make, rightfully so, the argument of "who can beat Hillary?" Perhaps the one person who helps the most is the man that reminds us the most of the past...Bill Clinton. At the end of the day, I suspect there will be a substantial amount of "Bush, then Clinton, then Bush, then Clinton" fatigue come 8-10 months from now if Hillary is the nominee...regardless of who the GOP nominee is.

The conversation went on about what kind of campaign does Hillary want next fall, should she be the nominee?

SH: "I think if [the Republicans] go too negative, I think it creates a backlash."

KR: "I think you're absolutely right. I think [Hillary] wants a campaign in which
the Republican Nominee comes out with a roaring attack on her. She wants
that. Because she knows the only way she can win in a General Election
against a Republican candidate is if it gets down and ugly, so she wants that
candidate to come hard. I think its absolutely important that our nominee when
he is selected. It's really important that our nominee come out and say 'here's
who I am, here's what my life has been about, here's what motivates me in
public service, here's what I've been able to achieve, here's how you get to
     know me."

Hmmm, sounds like the Mike Huckabee strategy already. First, diffuse the "down and ugly"...he's on record as saying "I'm not mad at anyone, that's not me." Next, be candidate and tell everyone who I am, What I Believe. Again, who I am and what I Believe. Remember, Huckabee fought the Clinton Machine when he ran and won the Arkansas Lt. Governor's race. It's also important to remember that Huckabee has had the same advisor on previous campaigns as the Clintons: Dick Morris. Remember the times the protege' has come back to beat "the teacher" in sports?!?!?

Plus: It will be important for others to follow this lead, going negative in a primary campaign will be used by Hillary in the fall (or Barack) against us.

Two Long Bombs Help Huckabee Campaign

Well it might not have been a Roger Staubach to Drew Pearson Hail Mary (perhaps just a Romo to Witten pass), yet it was still a good day for the Hucakbee Campaign. Why, because it now has the ammo to fire back against the inside-the-beltway elites (and one way out in California) who have been firing shot upon shot on Huckabee when it comes to the issue of Immigration. In fact, the Huckster now has two cruise missiles of his own.

Missile Number One: Minuteman Founder Jim Gilchrist announced that he has chosen to endorse Mike Huckabee for President. "For months now, I've been searching for a candidate to support for president of the United States,'' said Gilchrist. Adding, "Governor Huckabee actually wrote a plan that I can embrace.  I found his ‘Secure America’ plan would open the dialogue and help begin the process of solving the illegal immigration problem. "[A plan that was most likely to halt] this illegal immigrant invasion problem."

How will the elites spin this one as a negative for Huckabee? That's the good question...the short answer is, they can't. Give Romney credit for the endorsement of the National Review. Feather in his cap. However the size and scope of the Grassfire.org and American Family Association (whom endorsed Huckabee) e-mail lists are far greater then that of the NRO.

Missile Number Two: Grassfire.org National Poll shows Mike Huckabee receives the overwhelming support of Grassroots Conservatives in America. "The poll found that grassroots conservatives find Hucakbee among the most trustworthy on the issue of stopping illegal immigration." As stated on their website, "Grassfire.org’s leadership team holds a strong and unwavering commitment to conservative, pro-family and pro-faith values. These values guide our decision-making process." Yet again, another group of voters who are focused on Immigration chose Huckabee. And don't forget that GF was at the forefront of getting the Immigration Bill killed in the Senate AND has been working tirelessly to get the release of Border Agents Ramos and Compean.

From their press release: "The nation's largest statistically valid survey of grass-
roots conservatives has found that Mike Huckabee now enjoys a 2-to-1 margin of
support over his nearest competitor -- a dramatic shift from a similar poll conducted
     in September.

"Nine of ten grassroots conservatives list "securing our borders" among their top
issues. Other key issues in order of importance: Reducing the tax burden (66%),
Second Amendment rights (65%), Iraq War--Stay the Course (64%), Defend
traditional marrage (61%), Protecting the Unborn (58%)."

Hmmm, another slap in the face of those elites who claim Huckabee is only seeing a boom because of the evangelical vote in Iowa. #1 issue Immigration, #2 Issue Cutting Taxes. #1 Choice: Mike Huckabee!

The question now becomes how scared have the both the Romney campaign and the inside-the-beltway elites become? Perhaps it is why the Romney Campaign has decided to go negative. The aforementioned poll of grassroots conservatives said Huckabee (25%) has a better shot than Romney (19%) to capture the nomination. Will they appreciate the first negative ad coming from a campaign running scared, most likely not. I would also imagine that that ad is going to fall on deaf ears when you consider 20% of those surveyed said Huckabee has articulated the clearest plan for securing the borders compared to just 9% for Romney.

For the record, I do not support Governor Huckabee when he defends scholarships for Illegal Aliens by saying we cannot punish the children for the sins of their parents. This is a slippery slope we cannot go down, because children get punished all the time. Parents file make mistakes and file for bankruptcy, doe the children deserve a break? When someone gets executed for a crime, does that warrant a scholarship over someone else? Not wanting to keep the embargo on Cuba while Governor, although I give him credit for candidly admitting he sees things different as President than that of a Governor. National Smoking Ban, UGH!

The recent attacks sure look like a well orchestrated effort. It is astonishing, however, how much hypocrisy is coming from the Romney campaign in attacking Huckabee for changing his position on Immigration when consider Romney has made changing positions an art-form.  Even funnier to hear them say they are being attacked not on substance but because of the success of their campaign. Memo to Romney campaign: it works both ways Sounds like the Mittster is starting to sweat a little bit over the zillions of dollars they've spent so far without a substantial rise in the national polls.

And it's just heating up...

Update: Michael Medved posted on why Huckabee has seen a surge. "The real reasons Mike Huckabee is suddenly a serious contender are his affable attitude and his refusal –so far- to engage in the petty attacks and negative campaigning that have pre-occupied Rudy and Romney. The American people feel weary of bitterness and bickering and respond well to a plain-spoken nice guy who talks about common-sense and positive solutions." Goes back to what Karl Rove said about you cannot go negative.

Huckabee Hits A Home Run

It's a Home Run for Mike Huckabee on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace and anyone who says otherwise cannot be trusted as an analyst (just a playful dig).  His responses to Wallace's questions were simply magnificent (another playful dig). On every level of examination it was a masterpiece (one last dig). Last week was arguably the worst week of the campaign so far for Huckabee. Unlike that west coast blogger, there are areas I differ with someone I have been known to support. First the National Smoking Ban, then the Scholarships for Illegal Aliens really made me scratch my head. I can certainly find fault for both those. But to Huckabee's credit, he is focused and on message. Some analysis of Governor Huckabee's visit to FNS...

- "The Quarantine Issue" First question out of the box is on this weeks so-called bomb shell,
the mis-characterization of advocating a quarantine for people afflicted with AIDS. Wallace
tried to get him to put his own foot in the bear trap and Huckabee avoided it with a clear
and reasonable answer. Many Americans had reservations about receiving blood trans-
fusions and how to deal with the epidemic. The Governor addressed those concerns and
showed his executive experience with the recent Avian Flu pandemic and the need to be
ready for it. Handling the "but" question from Wallace, Huckabee was ready - talking about
both someone he knew who got AIDS from a blood transfusion and one from his
     homosexuality.

But here is where he directly contrasts himself with Mitt Romney, "But what I'm not going
to do is to go back and now try to change every story I've ever had. I'm going to simply say
that that was exactly what I said. I don't run from it, don't recant from it."  GRAND SLAM!

- "The Speech and Faith in Politics" Question from Chris Wallace had to do with Charles
Krauthammer's column making claims that the Governor is exploiting religious differences
for political gain. After a sincere answer, the "Wallace follow up" came fast with "Do you
think it's intolerant -- do you think it's prejudice -- for voters -- I'm not asking you; for voters
to consider the tenets of Mormonism in judging Mitt Romney?" Another Grand Slam
Response from Huckabee, "I do think that's inappropriate. I think people should judge
Mitt Romney on his record. Is he
consistent? Does he say and believe the things now
that he said and believed before? That's
what ought to be the criteria. I don't think
his Mormonism ought to be a factor in it. And I wouldn't
vote for or against somebody
because they were Mormon. It simply wouldn't be that big of an
issue for me. If it is
for others, they'll have to explain that. It isn't for me, and it shouldn't be for anyone."

Slam, out of the park! Huckabee is on the record now saying it's not Romney's faith
that he should be judged by, it's his record. Has he changed positions and been
questioned about those changes, yes. is it right to ask, YES!

-  "Immigration" Wallace questioned him about saying in the past he was for a pathway for
Citizenship, again trying to get him to flip flop like someone from Massachusetts and
again, grand slam "When I said a pathway, I didn't say what the pathway was." Great
answer. He adds a common sense answer about how technology has allowed us to
get "a credit card application done in hours," which is something Newt talks about
frequently...and somehow avoids getting scorched by someone on the west coast. Do
I agree 100% completely with Hucakbee on Immigration, no. Am I afriad to say it,
absolutely not. On a frim imigration stance meter, I would like to see him be more like
    Duncan Hunter. That's trusted analysis.

While he didn't receive the Rush Limbaugh Stamp of Approval, but when Chris Wallace closes a thanks for "for giving us some straight answers" then you know it diffuses any unncesseary and unwarranted illogical attacks. Will Huckabee ever convince a certain west coast blogocrat, certainly not. But very few are so dogmatic

Dictionary.com: Dog-ma-tic (adjective) asserting opinions in a doctrinaire or arrogant manner; opinionated.

In all seriousness, we have to have passion about those we support. It's also important not to be an un-biased cheerleader that leads to people to question your role. As Michelle Malkin writes, "sometimes a candidate's worst enemy isn't his most staunch opponent, but his most overzealous fan."

What Romney supporters have to be concerned about most is what Bill Kristol had to say during the round table portion of Sunday's program:

"But I think there's an awful -- kind of a patronizing tone about the Christian
evangelicals and about Mike Huckabee. Mike Huckabee is second in the national polls.
He's not just popular in Iowa where there happen to be, according to people inside the
Beltway, a lot of wacky Christian evangelicals. Huckabee is rising everywhere. He has
been a very good candidate. He's not particularly my favorite. But you've got to give credit
where credit is due. He is running a heck of a campaign, and it's not just in Iowa. He's
second in every national poll since Thanksgiving. Romney's problem is that he hasn't
been able to rise in the national polls
, though spending about, what, 20 times more
    money than Mike Huckabee."

This has the be the spur up Hugh Hewitt's saddle, that despite all the money and hopes, Romney just can't make any movement in the polls. The message isn't resonating, so he is saying it is only a two man race. Should Fred Thompson, which is still plausable, get back on track - watch for the arrows to fly in his direction.
So is Hugh right, it's a two man race, well the answer would be bad news for Hugh because Romney isn't that second guy.

What if Huckabee Wins Iowa, Michigan and South Carolina while Romney gets New Hampshire...can the momentum    from winning three of the first four give him the boost to pick up Florida? Especially if Fred pulls out. Hugh may be right, it just might not be Romney that is that second guy. Huckabee has survived all the irrational one-sided attacks so far, just shows he is skilled at what he does. Again, I don't agree with him 100%, but I don't advertise to either.
